A Letter from the Founder of Mando Mandarin

Dear School Administrator or Teacher,

I’d like to explain to you how I’ve made finding the best contemporary Chinese language program very easy for you.

In 2007, I moved from New York to Shanghai, China in order to find new life opportunities and improve my own Chinese language skills.  I tried out over thirty language schools or private tutors, and many self-study software packages and books.  Some courses were not very well-organized, while others were way over-priced… interestingly, MOST were just NOT that exciting.

During my search for a quality Chinese program, this is what I discovered.  There is a huge difference from school to school, and from teacher to teacher, in terms of quality, methodology, and especially the amount of fun a student will have learning.  Learning a language that’s as daunting as Chinese should not be laborious and stressful.  It CAN and is SUPPOSED to be fun and inspirational.  The degree to which a real live teacher can make learning Chinese enjoyable makes all the difference.

Several months into my research, I met Kassey Wang, an education and language professional who had created her own unique method for teaching Chinese.  I immediately hired Ms. Wang to give me face-to-face lessons for 100 hours.  I found her method to be so incredible that I decided to team up with her so I could share it with students from all around the world.  Together, Ms. Wang and I built Mando Mandarin by recruiting and training a lively, youthful, and energetic team of certified teachers who blend Mando’s method with their personal teaching styles.

After testing our program for over 50,000 combined hours on hundreds of students from over 40 countries, we are ready to deliver courses to public and private schools like yours.  Today, students and schools are thrilled with the results!  We truly have made learning Chinese easier.  See what others are saying by watching videos and testimonials from our website or at our exhibit at the conference.

I am certain that you will be satisfied with our program and pricing. We offer free course consultations and demo lessons for faculty, parents, and students, so everyone can get a taste.

Remember to sign up for a free demo while you’re at the conference!

Regards,

Mike Cheng

Backgrounder

Mando Mandarin Online Chinese School is one of the world’s leading online Chinese language schools.  It specializes in teaching Chinese online to pre-K to 12th grade schools and students, as well as face-to-face to businesses and professionals located in Shanghai.  Mando also offers other course types (1-on-1, business, survival, culture, etc).  The school was founded in 2007 by Michael Cheng, who was in search of an effective course for learning Mandarin Chinese.

After working with several language experts, Cheng discovered that the key to learning Chinese quickly is finding the right program or method which simplifies seemingly complicated grammatical structures and pronunciation techniques and summarizes them into easily understood mnemonic devices.

Cheng, with the help of some language experts, began to systematize the Mando teaching method around this information and recruited a team of certified Mandarin teachers from Shanghai. At the end of 2007, Cheng and his team, including Kassey Wang, created Mando Mandarin Online Chinese School.

Wang is Mando’s Director of Education.  She is a certified teacher and has founded and trained teachers for training centers in Shanghai and Beijing. Mando’s talented team of certified instructors has tremendous experience teaching students from overseas of all levels and backgrounds.  Every lesson is live and taught online by a real teacher from China.  Since its inception, the school has satisfied several hundred students from over 40 countries and taught over 50,000 combined lesson hours.

Mando Mandarin offers free course consultations and demo lessons.

What’s GREAT about Mando Mandarin?

Don’t just take it from us.  Read what satisfied schools and students have had to say:

This program is really great because it teaches kids that you can learn other languages and it’s not that hard.”

- Lizzie Walsh, 7th Grader at St. Gertrude School in Cincinnati, OH

“I think that [the students] really seem to enjoy it.  This is one of the classes where you see a lot of interaction and they’re talking to each other in fun ways.”

- Elaine Nolte, Assistant Principal at St. Gertrude School in Cincinnati, OH

“I started with Mando Mandarin to improve my speaking and to supplement what I had already learned with my previous Chinese lessons. I must say that I have been more than satisfied with the quality of the instruction, and the one on one attention I had received from my instructor. I have been thrilled with Mando Mandarin and I will continue to expand my Mandarin education further.  For the price you pay, you can’t beat the value.”

- Justin Kim, Student from New York, NY

“[Mando Mandarin] has been very easy to work with, very flexible, very adaptable; everything that I have been promised has in fact happened. There have been no technology challenges of any sort, it feels like the person is right in the next room as opposed to halfway around the world.  Clearly they’re very competent not only in Chinese but their facility in English.  It’s been a very easy program for us to make work in the time constraints and the budget constraints we have.”

- Diane Laake, Assistant Principal at Mother of Mercy HS in Cincinnati, OH

“My Chinese has reached a level I never thought possible unless I moved to China. When I was in college I had taken Chinese, but I did not learn very much. Traditional teaching forced me to memorize words and produced little results. The Mando Method was so different. All my lessons were based on everyday topics and gave me enough time to actually use my newly learned Chinese in private conversations. This permanently ingrained the language in my head. I am extremely confident now in my ability to speak Chinese. It is an awesome feeling and I definitely couldn’t have done it without Mando.”

- Jon Pei, Business Owner and Founder of FruiTeaLicious.com from Dallas, TX

“Ultimately, I chose Mando Mandarin for two main reasons: 1) it’s much cheaper than comparable face-to-face lessons, and 2) it’s really convenient, since I can do it from my laptop rather than traveling to [class]. I am happy to say it has surpassed my expectations. My teacher reviews learning materials with me every week, and clearly and patiently explains the grammar and vocabulary. Then, we talk about topics I’m interested in, keeping my interest level high during the lesson and giving me relevant chunks of language that I’ll use later. She lives in Shanghai, so I know I’m getting real, current, colloquial conversation practice that won’t make me sound outdated or awkward when I speak in the real world. My speaking has really improved since I started with Mando Mandarin, and I feel confident that I am making my way towards fluency!

- Ana Kravitz, Online Student from New York, NY

Los Angeles Public School Students Learn Chinese from Real, Live Teachers in Shanghai, China

LOS ANGELES, Ca. (June 25, 2010)— At Florence Nightingale Middle School, a public school in the Los Angeles Unified School District, sixth-graders are getting a head start on their foreign language skills by participating in a Chinese language program facilitated by Mando Mandarin Online Chinese School.  Mando Mandarin specializes in teaching Chinese to students of all ages in a fun and relaxed environment.  The classes utilize a synchronous distance-learning platform, which means that students in the USA are taught in real-time in a virtual-classroom setting by live native Chinese teachers who are located in Shanghai, China.

“Most schools don’t teach foreign language courses until high school, which is a shame because the students’ curiosity and desire to learn is there now.  Our students are eager to learn and are capable of learning a language that’s very empowering to them,” said Robert Elsinger, Nightingale Middle School teacher.

Mandarin is currently the most widely spoken foreign language in the world.  The course at Nightingale Middle School is the first of its kind offered at the school and aims to give students the knowledge to thrive in an evermore diverse and global economy.

Mando Mandarin’s President and Founder Mike Cheng reiterated, “Today, it is imperative not only to expose students to the language and culture of rising China, which will soon surpass Japan as the world’s 2nd largest economy – but also to give them the experience of communicating in a distance-learning setting.  Global business is increasingly conducted online through worldwide virtual teams.  We allow students at a young age to enjoy learning the language of the future using a 21st century approach.  Our program teaches skills that give them a competitive edge which lasts a lifetime.”

Through Mando Mandarin Online Chinese School, students are encouraged to practice basic conversations in Mandarin without boring repetitions using a unique learning method.  Using the Mando Method, which has summarized over 100 Chinese grammar rules and sentence structures using mnemonics, students learn faster than when using traditional methods. They are also taught Chinese history, traditions and modern culture through stories, videos and assignments that are emailed to them after each session. Mando Mandarin teaches both customized lessons for enrichment-based learning as well as standardized, accredited courses.  The length of each lesson is tailored to meet the schedule of each individual school.

The interactive, lively nature of the program allows students to learn Chinese with less effort and in a shorter period of time, in a very exciting and engaging way.  Students work from computer stations and are able to raise their hands to ask questions and interact with the teacher through webcams, live-audio, instant messaging, and by email.

Mandarin Online Chinese School Launches New Web Site with Streaming Video

NEW YORK, NY (April 20, 2010)—Mando Mandarin Online Chinese School announces the release of its new website, which launches today.  The new site was developed to accommodate video footage of real recorded lessons, more links to social networks and to make the online school content easier to navigate.

The new web site is loaded with information about every aspect of the online language school, which includes streaming videos, student and teacher testimonials, and details about the new teaching methodology that is effective and makes learning Chinese fun and easy.  It features added recorded online demonstrations, new instructor profiles, and blogs that will allow visitors and students to share their experiences and opinions about the online school.

Mando’s highly trained teachers are the backbone of the company.  New teacher profiles were also added to highlight the educational backgrounds and personalities of its certified instructors, who teach live from Shanghai, China.  Testimonials on the web site show how much school faculty members in Ohio and other states across the U.S. are raving about Mando Mandarin.

Learning to speak a new language can be daunting, but with Mando Mandarin’s new teaching method, students learn Chinese easily and effectively.  The streaming video will give site visitors a first-hand look at exactly how Mando Mandarin’s new online teaching systems work.  Visitors will see classroom instruction and the process by which students are engaged in learning to speak Chinese.

Why is it important to learn to speak Chinese?  China is regarded as this century’s global leader in industry and trade.  China is a topic of interest to students and businesses world-wide because it’s the fastest growing consumer market in the world.  According to a recent USA Today article, between the years 2000 and 2006, U.S. exports to China grew more than five times—roughly $16.2 billion in 2000 to more than $41 billion by 2005.  Economists expect those numbers to grow as China embraces more of the western culture.

Students and businesses can have immediate social and career advantages by understanding Chinese language and culture — and Mando Mandarin can give students that advantage.

The new and improved web site can be found at www.mandomandarin.com.  For more information, call 1-888-51MANDO (1-888-516-2636).
